Video poker is a term that refers to a variety of similar games of poker, with each game having slightly different rules and payoffs. In North America, poker has become one of the most famous and well-liked card games. The game initially spread from the Mississippi and Ohio rivers to the east coast via the railroads and went on to become very popular in the mid 1830s in the U.S. The rules of poker have been the same for many years now. The last noteworthy change came around 1875 when the jokers started to be played as wildcards. Video poker is similar to a regular game of poker and is made up of a mixture of slot machines and five-card draw poker. The two versions of poker differ in that you are playing against a machine rather than real people, and your have to achieve certain hands rather than beat opponents' hands because there are no other players. Video poker has been played since the mid 1970s and was only made possible when the computer chip was invented.
